Since I went natural some years ago, I’ve become a bit of a product junkie. While I have narrowed my faves down to two hands-down, you can’t beat these products, there are a host of others I highly recommend.
Now, as a precursor, I’m recommending these products for those who have Type 3 and Type 4 hair because that’s the hair me and Bear are rockin’. However, cowashes are meant for all hair types (and they’ve worked well on Maks’s Type 2 hair).
I broke this post up into a few categories: Best High-End, Best Drugstore, Best Name Brand, and Best CoWash for a Child. Seriously, I had to break it up to those categories but you’ll see in a few why I had to.
That being said, let’s go!
Best High-End Co-Wash
Bumble & Bumble’s BB Curl.
You won’t get any better than this. It detangles so easily, I was in love with it the moment I tried it. Pricey at $34 a bottle, it’s well worth the splurge. However, you won’t just get one bottle; you’ll get two or three.

Curl Junkie.
Bear’s hair absolutely loved Curl Junkie and it’s also another staple in our home. It gives great slip, but it just a dream when it comes to detangling. I sincerely love it and it gives me less time to spend on Bear’s hair.

Best Drugstore Co-Wash
As I Am.
Hands-down. You probably won’t get any better than this. Not only is it affordable, but it also gives lots of slip and thoroughly cleanses your hair.
Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibisicus Co-Wash
And no, I’m not saying this because I was once an ambassador for the brand. This is a legit great cowash. Not only does it smell sweet, but not overpowering, it actually works! And it’s very affordable.
Eden Body Works
I discovered Eden Body Works when I first went natural and I have to say I was impressed with the first time I used it. Not only does it smell great, it’s also super affordable and I felt I didn’t have to use that much to cleanse my hair (or Bear’s).
The Doux.
This is another new-to-me brand. While this cowash was eh on Bear’s hair, it actually worked wonders on mine, which is why I’m recommending it. I was able to detangle through the knots easier and it smelled great. So again, I don’t recommend this for Type 3 hair, but I do think it’s a good contender for Type 4.
Best Name Brand Co-Wash
It’s actually a tie from two brand I didn’t expect: Pantene and Head and Shoulders. For real, for real.
Head and Shoulders
Head and Shoulders legit surprised me because I didn’t think they were capable of making a cowash that catered to textured hair, but lo and behold!
And it worked! It was an actually fabulous cowash. It gave my hair a lot of slip (meaning it detangled it easily), and thoroughly cleansed it.

Pantene
Pantene gave me a lot of slip and the scent was easy on my nose. Plus, it was super cheap, too!
The Mane Choice.
Though, it’s been around for a while, it’s still relatively new to me. I like how affordable this is and it’s a cheaper 3-in-1 in comparison to my old faithful, Bumble and Bumble. My hair felt super hydrated after one use and I didn’t have do a lot of detangling.
